More than two hundred works trace the evolution of portraiture from the 19th century to contemporary photography. The catalog brings together major historical and modern figures: Nadar, Eugène Atget, Julia Margaret Cameron, Adalbert Cuvelier, Alphonse Bertillon, Paul Strand, André Kertész, Diane Arbus, Raoul Ubac, William Klein, Ralph Gibson, Dieter Appelt, among others. The catalog’s value also lies in the inclusion of anonymous, scientific, ethnographic, press, and amateur photographs, offering a particularly broad perspective on the history of portraiture. Condition: generally good; the cardboard binding shows some soiling and scuffing, particularly on the back cover, as well as slight marks and creases. The interior is in very good condition.
