ATTRIBUTED TO ZENG JING (1564–1647), LADY BENEATH SPRING TREES IN A GARDEN 仕女画 曾鲸款 The painting on silk executed in elaborated brushwork depicts a classical lady standing beneath a flowering magnolia tree whose white blossoms echo the colour of her dress. She stands in a garden adjoining her inner chamber, inside which a book on the desk and a qin hanging beyond the moon gate suggest her cultivated interests. A white parrot perched above the desk reflects her fondness for the bird, further illustrated by the screen which bears an inscription and a poem on the white parrot, written in regular script and signed by 'Tang Fen (唐鈖).' 67cm x 39cm
