Art Déco Pin with Emerald & Diamonds in Platinum on Gold, c. 1930

Bar brooches, elongated and rather narrow, were created in large numbers and in different shapes in the first decades of the 20th century. This one is a fine variation on this popular theme, in the design language of Art Deco. The bar, made of gold with a platinum front, is pierced on the inside, creating a modern, surprising moment that is typical of Art Deco. Two old-cut diamonds are placed on either side, the outer one slightly larger than the inner one, creating a subtle tension. At the center of the design is a rectangular cluster motif. Simple yet refined in detail, the design is perfect for showcasing the beautiful center stone. It is a strikingly transparent, bright green emerald from Colombia. The gemstone weighs around 0.47 ct and is cut in the classic emerald cut, which shows off its color and luminosity to their best advantage. The stone is as luminous and expressive as you could wish for from an emerald with the coveted origin of Colombia. We were able to acquire the brooch from a private collection. It reflects the exquisite and modern taste of the 1930s, both in terms of material and in its design, workmanship and the diamond cuts used. A wonderful piece of jewellery that has survived the passage of time superbly!
