Mahogany armchair, Empire style, with dolphins carved on the armrests. With loose seat cushion and gold-colored upholstery This is an antique armchair in Empire style, probably dating from the early 20th century. The Empire style, popular during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte, is known for its majestic forms, clean lines and inspiration from antiquity, such as Roman and Egyptian motifs. Style: The furniture piece shows typical Empire features, such as the use of dense and symmetrical designs. Mahogany Decorations: Note the bronze or gilded ornaments (ormolu mountings) on the top of the backrest and the carved motifs on the armrests, which often depict eagles, laurel wreaths, or other mythological figures.
