Armchair - Wood, Iron

[Lotto d'Avanguardia] Postmodern chair-sculpture in patinated forged iron and turned solid wood - Attributed to Studio Vetro & Ferro, Milan - circa 1989 Splendid accent lot that perfectly embodies the cultured, ironic, and sculptural aesthetics of Italian Postmodernism in the late 1980s. This chair-sculpture unites the strength of cold-worked metal with the visual softness of anthropomorphic lines, establishing itself as a true gallery object (Design Statement). Details and Specifications: - Estimated period: 1988 - 1992 - Country of origin: Italy (Milan) - Style / Movement: Postmodern / Italian Avant-garde - Attribution: Studio d'Arte Vetro & Ferro (Milan) - Materials: Supporting frame in round iron rod with original patina finish in antique gold/bronze; decorative terminals and central suspended wooden sphere in turned solid walnut; seat perimeter finished with brass studding. - Upholstery: Original long-pile fabric from the period (bouclé/matte velvet texture) in a golden ochre shade. Historical-artistic analysis of the lot: The project stands out for its strong material contrast and balance of forms. The conceptual core resides in the integration of the macro-wood turned spheres: used both as terminal feet and as a central decorative counterweight, they humorously reinterpret the classic "ball feet" of Baroque furniture, winking at the famous geometries of the Vienna Secession. The high, teardrop-shaped backrest gives the object a pronounced three-dimensional stage presence. Lot conditions: The item presents itself in its vintage original state. The structural frame retains stability and period shape but shows signs of aging: the fabric shows some surface stains from use and time, while the gold-colored paint on the iron shows abrasions and finish chips consistent with the period, requiring a touch-up/repainting to restore the original brightness. An authentic piece, ideal for collectors or for a light conservative restoration. Shipping notes: The item will be packed with the utmost care and professional protection to preserve its integrity during transport. Tracked and insured worldwide shipping. In-person collection on site is also welcome.
