Armand Meffre (1929–2009) - Sète - La Pointe Courte

Armand Meffre (1929–2009) French actor and painter. - Sète - La Pointe Courte - signed bottom right, countersigned and titled and on the back, original work, oil on canvas 54x73 cm, stretched on stretcher. Sète is not just a subject for Armand Meffre: it is a place deeply tied to his life and his work. The port of Sète is one of Armand Meffre’s most cherished subjects. Fascinated by its harbor world, its quays, its boats and its installations, he reinterprets their forms and colors, transforming the real landscape into powerful geometric compositions, at the boundary of abstraction. La Pointe Courte, a historic and patrimonial district of Sète, is famous for its fishermen’s huts and its authentic atmosphere. Armand Meffre offers an interpretation in a cubist style, where boats, masts and architectures blend into a modern, luminous geometric composition, particularly expressive. An iconic actor of theatre and cinema, Armand Meffre has acted under the direction of major filmmakers alongside Philippe Noiret, Jean Rochefort or Gérard Depardieu. Trained in painting with master André Lhote, he developed a sensitive, luminous and deeply sensual body of work. His paintings, imbued with tenderness and poetry, reveal a profoundly human gaze, between controlled emotion and sincere simplicity. A complete artist, each canvas tells a story and moves with its authenticity. A gifted artist with significant results at public sales.
