Arflex - calka - Armchair (2) - Grand Prix - Steel, Textile

Exceptional and monumental pair of author lounge armchairs model "Grand Prix" (or Gran Premio), designed by the celebrated French sculptor and designer Maurice Calka for Arflex in 1960. This is one of the rarest, most sought-after, and spectacular classics of mid-century modernism and Italian design. The seats are distinguished by their unmistakable sinuous, dynamic, and enveloping line, supported by a sculptural and elegant frame with a four-branch cross-shaped metal base lacquered black. The chairs have been finely reupholstered over the years with a refined checkered fabric (tartan/Burberry style) in warm tones of brown, cream, and ochre, giving them a bold, sophisticated character and a distinctive vintage charm, perfect for highlighting prestigious living rooms, design studios, or exclusive lounge areas. Designer: Maurice Calka (1921-1999). Producer: Arflex (Made in Italy). Model: Grand Prix / Gran Premio. Era: 1960s. Materials: Internal steel frame, metal base, checkered fabric upholstery. Quantity: Set consisting of 2 chairs (a pair). Indicative dimensions: Height 88 cm, Width 88 cm, Depth 85 cm. Item Condition: As these are original vintage items, normal signs of time due to use and age are present. The four-branch cross metal bases are stable and robust, showing their natural patina and very light surface wear from rubbing. The inner foam padding remains comfortable and soft, and the checkered fabric is well taut and clean, with minimal and physiological vintage wear related to the years that attest to its history.
