Apple Macintosh Performa 600 — Early Caddy-Loaded CD...

Apple Macintosh Performa 600 (Model M1350) – Early Caddy-Loaded CD Version – Non-Working | Restoration Project >> Early caddy-loaded models are hard to find today and valued by vintage Apple collectors, even in non-working condition. // Short historical background The Apple Macintosh Performa 600 was introduced in May 1993 as a consumer-focused alternative to Apple’s professional Quadra line. Internally based on the Motorola 68040 processor, the Performa 600 delivered strong performance for its time while targeting home and educational users. Early Performa 600 units were offered with a caddy-loaded CD-ROM drive, a feature that was soon replaced by tray-loading mechanisms. As a result, original caddy-loaded Performa systems have become increasingly rare and are now of particular interest to collectors of early multimedia Macintosh computers. This unit is offered as a non-working restoration project, ideal for collectors, vintage-Mac enthusiasts, or anyone looking for an authentic early-’90s Apple system to restore or display. // What’s Included (inside the case): – Logic board; – Power Supply Unit (PSU); – Floppy drive; - Caddy Cd-ROM; – Mechanical hard disk; – RAM modules/ All components are present in the original case. // Condition & Technical Notes (Please Read Carefully): – The computer is sold as non-working / for parts or restoration; – Suspected power supply and/or logic board fault; – The working condition of the remaining components is unknown; – The mechanical hard drive is most likely non-functional due to age; – The floppy drive may require servicing or refurbishment; – No further testing has been performed due to lack of time and spare parts. // Cosmetic Condition: – Case has no cracks; – Typical yellowing of the plastic caused by UV exposure over time; – Expect spots, wear, and patina, especially in areas where a monitor once rested on the computer; – Please refer to the detailed photos for an accurate impression of the condition; – Some blemishes are difficult to capture accurately on camera; – The CD-ROM bezel does not fully close, although the drive remains present. // Why this machine is interesting – Early Performa 600 with 68040 architecture; – Rare caddy-loaded CD-ROM configuration; – Historically significant early-1990s Apple multimedia system; – Increasingly difficult to find in original condition; – Ideal candidate for restoration, display, or parts. // Collector & Display Value Even without functionality, the Performa 600 remains a striking and historically important Apple object. Its compact industrial design makes it an excellent display piece — a tangible artifact from Apple’s pre-iMac era and a strong addition to any serious vintage computing collection. // Important note This item is auctioned strictly as non-working, without warranty or guarantee. Prospective buyers are kindly asked to review all photos carefully and bid accordingly. This Macintosh is sold as-is, explicitly non-working, with no guarantee of functionality. All details have been described to the best of my knowledge and shown where possible in the photos. “One more thing…” Whether you see this Performa 600 as a future restoration project or as a striking display object, it remains a genuine piece of Apple history from the early ’90s — a time when Apple was defining its professional identity. This is a unique opportunity to add an authentic, conversation-starting artifact to your collection. A rare chance to own a classic Macintosh that tells a story — even when it’s not powered on.
