Antique Tile (3) - Delft Blue windmills Historicism Art...

The three ancient, very rare tiles date from the Art Nouveau / Historicism period, roughly 1890 to 1920. They were formerly hung in the kitchen. In this era, the typical German terms for functional towels (cup-towels, plate-towels, etc.) combined with the popular Dutch windmill motif (the “Delft style”) were extremely fashionable for bourgeois kitchens. Manufacturer The exact manufactory cannot be determined. It is, however, a German stoneware or wall tile factory. The motif is rendered in the Dutch “Delft blue” style, but the tiles were explicitly produced for the German market due to the purely German labels. Age-appropriate, very good condition with minimal chipping, see photos.
