Antique Three-Row Salmon Coral Necklace, c. 1900

"Behold this lovely structure which I dedicate to you as a gift; Red branches from the depths of the sea Gave the fabric to the row of pearls The jewellery of joyful youth, Where mermaid song was heard, The diver has wrested From the mighty coral tree!" This necklace transports us to the mystical underwater world. Coral beads are strung in three rows. They are a beautiful, intense salmon red and are very uniform in colour. Their diameter increases towards the center: The pearls are therefore arranged in a graduated pattern. The pearls of the necklace, cut by hand from Mediterranean coral, are polished to a shine. Their shape is not circular, but slightly flattened, which is typical of turn-of-the-century coral necklaces. The slightly pressed shape gives the strand a uniform and closed appearance. Slight traces of growth on the surface of the coral indicate that it is a natural material and make each individual pearl unique. The beautiful necklace has a comfortable length of 65.0 cm, making it perfect for wearing on a fine sweater or summer dress. The corals can be worn with their original clasp made from gold-plated tombac. A safety chain provides additional security to the clasp.
