Antique Rivière Bracelet with 4.78 ct Diamonds in Platinum, French, c. 1925

This timelessly elegant bracelet is what is known as a “rivière”: The term is derived from the French word for “river” and describes the flowing effect created by the diamonds set in close succession, which glide around the wrist like a glistening river of light. A total of 43 old-cut diamonds, totaling approximately 4.78 ct, are set in simple square settings made of platinum. Set close together, they create a seamless, flowing appearance. In the center, the narrow band widens to accommodate the largest diamond, then tapers toward the ends. The links are flexibly connected, allowing the bracelet to drape softly around the wrist. A safety clasp ensures a comfortable, worry-free fit. The bracelet dates from a time when this style of jewellery reached the height of its popularity. Not just one, but often two, three, or even more precious bracelets adorned the wrists of ladies. Movie stars such as Norma Shearer, Anita Page, and *Metropolis* star Brigitte Helm were photographed wearing these coveted accessories: their heads resting in their hands, the elegant bracelets prominently displayed. These photographs were mostly commissioned by major film studios such as UFA or MGM, with which the actresses were under contract: They were widely published, cemented their glamorous image, and, not least, set trends. This luxurious piece of jewellery is in excellent condition. According to the hallmark, it was manufactured in France and dates back to the turbulent 1920s.
