With the invention of gas light and later electric light towards the end of the 19th century, Europe's drawing rooms were suddenly filled with glistening brightness. No more dark, yellowish candlelight - the white glow of hundreds of lamps made the ladies' jewellery shine and sparkle like never before. No wonder that a new fashion emerged as a result of these developments: white jewels made of diamonds and platinum surfaces responded to the changed lighting conditions and replaced the previously more colourful designs. In general, jewellery became increasingly richly set with sparkling gemstones to create an ever more luxurious and magnificent appearance. At the grand balls in Paris, London and St. Petersburg, ever finer pieces of diamond jewelry were presented - tiaras, brooches and rings, all dreams in white diamonds. This delicate ring found its way to us from central Germany. It is made of gold with a platinum front. This shows artistic openings with fine shadow gaps that are precisely cut into the metal. A shimmering trio of old-cut diamonds sparkles in the center of the restrained, graphic frame, which is also adorned with smaller diamond roses. Together, the three center stones weigh around 0.60 carats and have a beautiful presence. A delicate 14-karat gold ring band, typical of the time, makes this precious arrangement wearable.
