Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Antique Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century Size: 6 ft 10 in x 5 ft 1 in (2.08 m x 1.55 m) Provenance: Property of a New York dealer A handsome antique Kazak characterized by powerful geometric ornament and the confident use of contrasting color. Kazak rugs were woven in village communities across the South Caucasus. Their bold medallions, angular borders and deliberately simplified motifs give them a visual authority that appeals to collectors of tribal textiles as well as admirers of modern abstraction. Its balanced proportions and strong graphic presence make this example equally effective as both a floor covering and a wall-mounted textile. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #469 is in fair to good condition. The pile is mostly full and even with minor areas of wear visible. The two ends are complete and hand-secured and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready. Please contact our rug experts at auction@nazmiyal.com or call us for any questions you may have at 212.545.8029. Please note that all lots are sold "AS IS. " Condition reports are given as a courtesy to our clients and shall not be deemed as a guarantee of the lot's condition, quality, and authenticity. The absence of a condition report does not imply the item is in perfect condition.
