KENNEDY, John Fitzgerald – WANTED FOR TREASON (WANTED FOR TREASON) Two photographic portraits of President Kennedy (one frontal and one profile), a large headline in bold, and seven charges laid out in two columns, printed on pale pink paper. Red morocco protective cover. Rare flyer of a strongly polemical character, written by Robert A. Surrey and clandestinely printed by an employee of a Dallas lithographic printer. According to later testimony given to the Warren Commission, about 5,000 copies of the flyer were printed and distributed on the streets of Dallas, Texas, starting a few days before Kennedy’s scheduled visit, which tragically ended with his assassination. Rare placard circulated in Dallas on the occasion of John F. Kennedy’s visit in November 1963. The placard bears the inscription “WANTED FOR TREASON” beneath two photographs of Kennedy, one frontal and one profile, and sets out seven charges against him, including “treason to the Constitution” and being “negligent in enforcing Communist-registration laws.” The Warren Commission investigated the document and determined that a man named Surrey had it printed in about 5,000 copies in flyer format, but that Surrey had no connection with Oswald. Nevertheless, questions have remained over time regarding possible links between Dallas extremists associated with these flyers and Oswald. Today only a very small number of the flyers survive, because the vast majority were destroyed before Kennedy’s assassination. Even fewer large-format copies were produced, of which this is an example. The placard measures 74 × 58 cm and on the reverse contains the same content in Italian. It shows some foxing/stains due to age and creases. Small holes are present at the intersections of the folds. Overall, the condition is fair. Open measurements: 73 × 57 cm. Folded into four, in very good condition. large-format Italian version, printed double-sided in English and Italian and distributed as a supplement to an Italian newspaper.
