André BRETON Autograph manuscript signed devoted to Wolfgang Paalen Exceptional autograph manuscript signed by André Breton (1896–1966) dedicated to Wolfgang Paalen (1905–1959), a major figure of surrealist painting. Written around 1960, this text revisits a passage from 'Genèse et perspectives artistiques du surréalisme', a work published in 1941, in which Breton speaks of Paalen's work and his deeply visionary conception of artistic creation. The manuscript is inscribed on the verso of a sheet of letterhead paper from the International Surrealist Exhibition, an exhibition organized in New York by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp from November 1960. This event constitutes one of the last great official international exhibitions of the Surrealist movement.
