Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, Middle to early Late Period. A petite grayware pottery jar with a globular body on a short ring foot. A raised band encircles the body at its widest point, forming a carination between the sloping shoulder and the rounded lower body, which is textured with faint diagonal impressions. A second raised ring circles the base of the tall, flaring neck, which ends in an everted lip. The gray to buff surface carries mineral encrustations from burial. Ban Chiang is a prehistoric settlement and burial site on the Khorat Plateau, where pottery vessels were commonly placed in graves. Item # 205653
