Ornamental bronze fastener with double fluted conical end pieces – Roman period, 1st–3rd centuries CE. Cultural reference: Roman. Typological chronology: Roman Empire, 1st–3rd centuries CE. Material: Cast bronze. Auction description: An interesting and distinctive ornamental bronze fastener, characterized by its elegant elongated structure and its two prominent conical end pieces, decorated with longitudinal relief grooves. The piece features a central body of rounded section and a slightly curved profile, finished at both ends by two faceted conical buttons, carefully shaped and symmetrically arranged. The ornamental treatment of the end pieces is especially striking, with their longitudinal ridges converging toward the ends, giving the whole an attractive geometric composition. The double-headed metal closures, known as toggles, were part of ancient fastening systems, used in both textiles and various belt fittings. Their design allowed a combination of strength, functionality and ornamentation. The piece constitutes an interesting example of small historical metalwork, where the simplicity of the structure contrasts with the elaborate treatment of its ends. It preserves a beautiful olive-green patina, with brown tones and surface deposits that highlight its ornamental details. Condition: Very good overall appearance, with both end pieces intact, grooves clearly visible, central body intact and an attractive archeological-looking patina. An especially interesting piece due to its original double-end design and well-balanced proportions.
