Sculpture in white marble of the god Eros with a dolphin. It stands upright, nude on an oval base. His body is muscular, portly. He is dressed like a boy, with wings on his back and finely sculpted musculature. Behind him is a dolphin with a dorsal fin; its right flank rests on the ground, the opened mouth head extending to the left of Eros, the tail in an S-shape to the right. With his left hand folded and pointing upward, Eros holds the dolphin's tail at shoulder height, while his right hand, pointing downward, rests on its head. A provincially Roman sculpture of exceptional charm, magnificently preserved. Dimensions: Height 13.3 cm - Width 6.2 cm Excellent state of preservation. Some minor chipping, notably on the dolphin's tail, and a slightly encrusted surface with sediment deposits. Otherwise intact. A most charming representation. Provenance: Germany, H.T.A. Gallery Previously: Southern German private collection acquired in the 1970s/1980s on the Northern Bavarian art market and passed down through inheritance.
