Roman Imperial Hairpin with Stylised Giraffe-Head Finial – 1st to 3rd Century AD Roman Imperial hairpin terminating in a finely modelled stylised giraffe head, distinguished by its elongated neck, projecting muzzle, small ears and paired ossicone-like projections. The long slender shaft is decorated with engraved geometric and vegetal motifs around the central section, while the zoomorphic terminal provides the principal ornamental element. Animal-headed hairpins formed part of personal adornment during the Roman Imperial period, combining a practical function with elaborate decorative craftsmanship.
