Encapsulated silver-plated metal pendant, for better preservation, with a Roman provincial bronze AE19 minted in the Cappadocia region, Caesarea mint, during the reign of Emperor Severus Alexander (222-235 AD). It is linked to a modern 925 sterling silver cord-type chain. Obverse; laurated bust of Emperor Severus Alexander facing right. Reverse; a sheaf of wheat ears, very representative of this coinage series during the 3rd century AD. This design had a deep meaning that combined economy, politics, and religion. - Abundance and prosperity, it symbolized agricultural wealth, good harvests, and fertility of the land. - Annona and provisioning, it was a way of boasting about the good functioning of the Annona (the food supply system). - Divine devotion, associated with agricultural and earth deities such as the Goddess Ceres, protector of crops and the cycle of life. It ships with a legal declaration sheet. Customs costs for shipments outside the EU will be borne by the auction winner.
