Background Information: This bronze finger ring dates to the Roman Imperial period and features a flat oval bezel engraved with a simple linear motif. Such understated geometric decoration was common on everyday Roman jewellery, where elegance was often achieved through clean forms and restrained ornament rather than elaborate embellishment. Bronze finger rings were widely worn throughout the Roman Empire by both men and women. They served as personal ornaments, symbols of status, expressions of identity, and sometimes as sentimental gifts. While wealthy Romans favoured rings of gold and silver, bronze examples such as this were accessible to a much broader section of society, including soldiers, merchants, artisans, and rural inhabitants. Roman rings were produced by skilled craftsmen using casting techniques, after which the bezel was carefully finished and decorated by hand. Simple engraved designs remained popular throughout the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D., reflecting the practical yet refined character of Roman personal adornment. Comparable examples have been recovered from settlements, villas, military camps, and cemeteries across Britain, Gaul, Germania, the Danubian provinces, and the Mediterranean, demonstrating the widespread adoption of similar styles throughout the Empire. Dating to the 1st–2nd century A.D., this ring belongs to the height of the Roman Imperial era, when personal jewellery formed an essential part of daily dress and reflected the interconnected culture of the Roman world."
