Ancient Roman

Roman bronze brooch with rear clasp — 1st–2nd centuries CE. Period: Roman Empire, 1st–2nd centuries CE. Material: Bronze. Typology: Button-and-ring clasp, of Romano-Celtic tradition. An interesting ancient bronze cast brooch, characterized by its elegant head with a rounded contour and pointed tip, forming a geometric, petal-like composition. On the reverse it retains a robust curved fastening system, cast as a single piece with the main body, intended to secure to garments or leather elements. This type of fastenings constitutes an intriguing testament to Celtic-inspired metalworking developed during the Roman period, combining functionality and ornament. Condition: Good overall integrity, with an attractive archaeological patina of dark green tones, mineral incrustations, and evident signs of age. A representative piece of Roman-era personal accessories, especially interesting for the preservation of its rear fastening system.
