Ancient Roman

Roman bronze discoidal brooch with concentric decoration – 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Culture: Roman. Era: Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Material: Bronze. Description for auction: Elegant Roman discoidal brooch made of bronze, belonging to the tradition of small personal adornments used during the Roman Empire to fasten cloaks and other garments. It features an attractive circular design, headed by a small central relief button, surrounded by a well-defined concentric ring. The outer area incorporates various radially arranged recessed geometric fields, which provide balance and ornamental richness to the composition. This type of brooch constitutes an interesting manifestation of Roman metalworking, in which artisans combined functionality and decoration through elegant geometric shapes. The piece preserves a beautiful green archaeological patina, with turquoise, ochre tones and mineral deposits that accentuate the reliefs and add notable aesthetic appeal. Condition: Good conservation of the ornamental disk, with visible concentric decoration, surface wear, and an attractive ancient patina.
