Ancient Roman

Winged bronze figure – Attributed to the Roman Empire, 1st–3rd centuries AD. Cultura atribuida: Romana Cronología propuesta: Siglos I-III d. C. Material: Bronce fundido Tipología: Figura zoomorfa fantástica, elemento ornamental A singular bronze figure representing an extraordinary winged animal with ursine appearance, executed with a frontal, symmetrical composition and high expressiveness. The head features small upright ears, marked eyes, a prominent snout and a defined mouth. On both sides unfold two large horizontal wings, decorated with incisions that stylize the feathers. The body narrows progressively from the chest to a lower widened termination, where it retains a circular perforation related to its ancient fixing system. The piece stands out for its singular iconography, combining the traits of a terrestrial animal with the attributes of a winged creature, within the tradition of fantastic representations of Antiquity. It preserves an attractive olive-green patina surface, earthy tones and small concretions, with surface wear that highlights the original modeling. A piece of notable visual appeal for collectors of small archaeological bronzes, zoomorphic figures and fantastic representations of the ancient world.
