Osirian Triad, composed of Osiris, Isis, and Harpocrates gods pendant figure Ancient Egypt, Late Period, 664 - 332 BC Solid bronze 8 cm height with stand, 6,5 cm height without stand. Condition: Good, intact, see photos. Provenance: Ex. old private collection, France. Since 1970. The Osirian Triad, composed of Osiris, Isis, and Harpocrates, was one of the most important divine groups in ancient Egyptian religion. The three deities were closely connected through family relationships and through the central Egyptian ideas of death, resurrection, motherhood, and the continuation of life. Osiris, the father, was the god of the dead and ruler of the underworld. Isis, his wife and sister, was a powerful goddess associated with magic, motherhood, and protection. Their son Horus, represented in his child form as Harpocrates, symbolized renewal and divine succession. During the Late Period of ancient Egypt, particularly from the seventh to the fourth century BCE, small bronze statuettes of Egyptian gods became increasingly common. These figures were produced using the lost-wax casting technique and were often dedicated in temples or placed in tombs and domestic shrines. The Osirian Triad was a particularly suitable subject for bronze sculpture because its three members expressed a complete divine family and represented important aspects of Egyptian religious belief. Osiris is generally depicted as a mummiform figure, standing or seated, with his arms crossed over his chest and holding the crook and flail. He often wears the atef crown, which emphasizes his identity as ruler of the afterlife. Isis is commonly shown standing, sometimes wearing a long dress and a throne-shaped headdress, although other forms and attributes also occur. Harpocrates is represented as a young, naked child, frequently with a sidelock of hair and a finger raised to his mouth, a characteristic gesture of childhood in Egyptian art. These Late Period bronze figures are important not only as religious objects but also as examples of Egyptian artistic craftsmanship. Their small scale made them portable and suitable for personal devotion. Together, the three figures visually expressed the ideals of family, divine protection, regeneration, and eternal life that remained fundamental to Egyptian religion.
