China. Jade bi disc with cloud decoration — Warring States / Western Han style Chronological reference: 3rd–2nd centuries BCE (275–141 BCE). Material: Jade with bluish-white tone, with cream nuances. Elegant circular disc of Chinese ritual tradition, known as Bi (璧), carved with a broad central hole and ornamented with stylized cloud motifs distributed around its surface. The decoration features volutes with rounded contours, worked in soft relief and delimited by concentric bands that enhance the harmony and balance of the composition. The stone shows an attractive celadon-white coloration, with natural tonal variations, areas of superficial alteration and signs of wear. Bi discs occupied a prominent place in Chinese civilization, associated with celestial symbolism, ritual ceremonies, and the prestige of aristocratic elites. Conservation status: Surface wear, small irregularities and a visible line in the upper sector. Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller. No further tests, such as a TL test, analysis of pigments or radiography scans have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
