First edition of Bradford's important atlas, with early maps of the Republic of Texas and the state of Michigan . The atlas includes a general map of North America, two maps of Canada, a double-page map of the United States, maps of individual states, and city plans. Each map is accompanied by explanatory text on the history, economics and geography of the area, as well as a great deal of contemporary statistical information. Sabin 7261. Folio (490 x 398 mm). Hand-colored engraved title by James Archer, 39 hand-colored copper-engraved maps by G. W. Boynton and others. (A little moisture rippling throughout). 19th-century half calf over cloth, modern gilt calf titling piece on front board (rubbed at extremities, front joint starting, repairs to spine, some soiling to cloth, endpapers renewed).
