All auctions / Ethnographic / American Southwest Palm Fiber Hand Broom for Metate

Native American, Southwestern United States, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A small hand broom made from a single length of palm, yucca, or similar plant fiber. The upper end is left whole as a thick, dense handle, and the lower end is shredded into fine bristles that spread slightly toward the tips. A twisted cord wraps the bristles just below the handle, gathering and flattening them into a fan. Small brooms like this were used in Southwestern households to sweep ground corn or flour from a metate. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 206115
