Alphonse Marie Mucha - “Affiche Bières de la Meuse, 1897”.

Marie Alphonse Mucha: Title: “Affiche Bières de la Meuse, 1897”. Signed in the plate. Colored offset lithograph, issued in 1997 by Taschen. Condition: the work is in very good condition. Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is one of the undisputed masters of Art Nouveau and a fundamental figure in the history of decorative modern art. His immediately recognizable style, characterized by elegant female figures, flowing lines, ornamental halos and rich botanical motifs, has become synonymous with fin-de-siècle Paris and the rise of graphic art as a consolidated discipline. Mucha’s works enjoy lasting international demand, with high prices for posters, lithographs and decorative panels, appealing just as much to fine-art enthusiasts, design fans and interior stylists. Mucha carried out this commission for a French brewery with the same strict quality standards as those he applied to his own works, with regard to attention to composition and balance, careful execution and color choice. He convincingly succeeded in adapting the female type and the decorative clothing he had developed in 1895-1896 to the brewery’s requirements: “The girl leans over the company emblem and holds the foaming, tasty beer mug. In the lush wreath of summer flowers that adorns her hair, we see the basic ingredients of beer: barley and hops. In the background are hop bines and the Meuse valley. The personification of this river, a seated woman at the source, appears as the company emblem in the lower part of the painting, which also depicts the brewery. Like the floral ornament, the color scheme is carefully chosen to visually convey the characteristics of beer. From the dark malt color of the dress with a matching amber belt to the reddish-brown hair and the light-translucent landscape in the background, every conceivable color that can be associated with beer is present. Mucha masterfully arranged these ingredients to create an image that credibly radiates freshness and naturalness. From a market and collecting perspective, Mucha sits beside other highly sought-after names in Modern and Decorative Art, such as Gustav Klimt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Egon Schiele and Aubrey Beardsley, while also resonating with collectors of broader modern and contemporary icons such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Keith Haring, Banksy and Jeff Koons. His work frequently appears in searches related to Art Nouveau interiors, vintage posters, luxury decor, Belle Époque aesthetics, history of graphic design and collectible prints. Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between acid-free protective paper. The shown photos are part of the description.
