IN RISALTO: • Rare Alfa Romeo 1900 M "Matta" (AR-51) from 1952 produced in fewer than 2,000 units • Conservatively restored project on a milestone of Italian off-road vehicles • Ladder-type steel chassis and cross members with all-wheel drive and 100% locking of the rear differential • Equipped with vintage plates and documents ready for ownership transfer STORIA/PANORAMICA: The Alfa Romeo 1900 M "Matta" (Autovettura Ricognizione 1951 - AR-51), produced between 1952 and 1954 in under 2,000 units mainly for military purposes, represents one of the rarest and most fascinating off-roaders in Italian automotive history. Developed around a solid ladder-frame steel structure, the "Matta" stands out for technical refinements unusual for off-road vehicles of the era, including independent front suspension with deformable parallelograms and torsion bars. The four-speed manual transmission with a reduction unit, manual engagement of the front drive, and 100% locking of the rear differential are featured. This 1952 example presents itself as a non-intensive restoration project, complete with its documentation and vintage plates. CARROZZERIA/VERNICIATURA: The bodywork is steel, of a completely open type but prepared for a canvas tarpaulin, equipped with a fold-down windscreen, wind doors, and a mounting for the spare wheel on the hood or behind the front seats. The front features the characteristic shield-shaped Alfa Romeo grille flanked by two headlights with stone-guard grilles. In front of the doors are the belt lines and the grilles for expelling hot air from the engine bay, while at the rear the pickaxe, the standard shovel, and the towing hook for potential one-horse trailer are fixed. The vehicle is offered in its current conservational state to be restored. INTERIORS: The cabin is configured to accommodate up to 6 people (2 in the front seats and 4 on the two longitudinal rear benches), with vinyl upholstery. The metal dashboard features circular instrumentation placed behind the black bakelite three-spoke steering wheel, including the main tachometer/odometer and secondary indicators (fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature). In the center of the dashboard sits the original plate with the maximum speeds achievable for each gear, while on the passenger side there is the handle and the lower metal storage pocket. MECCANICA: The car is sold without an engine (engine-free). The original mechanical setup included recirculating steering and worm-and-gear, and drum brakes on all four wheels with a handbrake acting on the transmission. The chassis group, suspension, and transmission require restoration and overhaul as part of the overall vehicle refurbishment. DOCUMENTI: The car is supplied with the original plates and the circulation documentation in order, ready for ownership transfer or export procedures.
