Alexandre Petrus (1988) - SPONGE BOB

ABOUT THE ARTWORK “Sponge Bob” is a playful tribute to one of the most iconic cartoon characters in popular culture. With his wide smile, expressive eyes, and instantly recognizable silhouette, the character is presented here in a bold stencil composition that captures his joyful and energetic personality. The artwork plays with nostalgia, humor, and pop culture, transforming a familiar animated figure into a vibrant urban artwork. The bright orange background gives the piece a strong visual impact and enhances the cheerful, lively spirit of the subject. Combined with the sharp contrasts of the hand-cut stencil, it creates a dynamic composition where simplicity, color, and character presence work together immediately. The result is both fun and striking — a piece that stands out through its directness and graphic energy. A fresh and eye-catching artwork for collectors drawn to cartoons, pop culture, and playful contemporary imagery. “Sponge Bob” is a piece about joy, childhood memories, and visual impact. ABOUT THE ARTIST Alexandre Petrus is a French stencil artist with a strong and instantly recognizable visual identity. His signature technique — the hand-cut double-layer stencil — separates light and shadow into two distinct stencils, layered onto a spontaneous, hand-painted abstract background. The result is a striking visual language where each subject emerges with strength, clarity, and presence. His work moves between mythology, pop culture, wildlife, and symbolic scenes inspired by childhood, freedom, and human emotion. Whatever the theme, the approach remains the same: precision in the stencil, freedom in the background, and a constant search for contrast, impact, and emotion. Each artwork is a unique original. No prints, no identical editions: every background is painted individually by hand, making each piece distinct. The small smiling “AP” monogram visible on the artwork is the artist’s signature — Alexandre Petrus’s initials merged into a face — sprayed onto every original piece.
