Agricultural cart, Spanish Popular School, 19th Century

Descriptio Assembled wood and wrought iron. An antique rural transport cart with simple lines and a functional structure, made for agricultural work and transporting loads using animal traction. The piece features a rectangular platform defined by vertical boards and large wooden spoked wheels with metal reinforcements, retaining original chains, rings, and hitching elements. The surfaces show marked natural erosion, with open grain, losses of polychromy, and oxidation that testify to decades of continuous use in rural areas. The structural simplicity and the strength of its joints reflect the traditional solutions developed by Spanish folk carpentry in the 19th century, where durability and practical adaptation to agricultural work were paramount. Its strong ethnographic value, combined with the beauty of the aged textures and the expressiveness of the materials, makes this piece an outstanding example of rural folk art and an element of great ornamental power and evocative historical presence.
