Oil on canvas Signed Diriks 80x 126 cm Executed in France around 1900 inspired by Monet and before taking on his more rough, energetic, primitive way of painting showed in paintings like "Marine" from 1908, Musée d’Orsay and "Nuages en mer Effet de ciel sur l’eau" 1906, Musées des Beaux-Arts de Dunkerques. These are two of his most famous paintings in France and shows more of his new developed technique. The motive in this is painting is probably Bretagne and unusual. Like in so many of his paintings the light is the most essential rather than the details. The expression in this painting is more sensitive than his other more dramatique landscapes paintings and you can observe his delicate but broad brushstrokes showed in the grass. It seems almost to be an early attempt of this new way of painting that made him so famous and unique at the time. The woman overlooking the sea is easily associated with the character Madame Bovary in Gustave Flauberts famous novel with the same name. 67 000 SEK
