After Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese 1797-1858) Futagawa from a Fifty-three

A group of travelers and porters hurries along a windswept road amidst a heavy downpour of rain, raising their hands and straw hats to cover their heads as they run past a prominent lone pine tree toward a small roadside shelter. The woodcut features a vertical red series cartouche alongside the station title block, an unbordered cursive poetic inscription integrated directly across the upper left sky field, and the standard artist block signature reading Hiroshige ga at the right margin line. This design is presented on a high-quality Showa-era re-carved sheet printed by Tomisaburo circa 1930. Image 11.25 x 8.5 inches.
