Japanese woodcut on paper after Kitagawa Utamaro titled Bamboo Curtain from the series Eight Views of Famous Teahouses. The composition is a bust portrait of a woman (okubi-e) adjusting her appearance while looking into a handheld mirror, viewed through the horizontal lines of a bamboo screen. She wears a blue kimono with a white floral pattern and her hair is elaborately styled with a large comb and ornaments. The woodcut is signed at the lower left with a circular red seal below. A vertical cartouche at the upper left identifies the series as Meisho Koshikake Hakkei, accompanied by a poetic inscription in cursive script. The reverse reveals the pigment bleed through characteristic of woodblock printing on washi paper. Sight size: 9.5"W x 13.75"H.
