Private Collection, California and North Carolina The present work is a copy after John Singer Sargent’s Nonchaloir (Repose) (1911), depicting his niece, Rose-Marie Ormond, reclining in an elegant interior. Departing from traditional portraiture, Sargent emphasized the sitter’s languid pose and contemplative mood. The original painting is in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. With intentionally aged surface; good estate condition.
