Adoration of the Shepherds. Spanish School. Late 18th century.

Descriptio Oil on canvas. The scene takes place in a dark interior where divine light emanates from the newborn Christ, surrounded by the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, and a group of shepherds who bow down in humility and wonder. The composition is pyramidal, with the Child at the center radiating light that gently shapes the faces of the figures. The collected gestures and emotional gazes reinforce the spiritual intensity of the moment. In the background, secondary figures and barely hinted architectural elements frame the scene without detracting from the main action. The brushwork is loose but firm, with refined details in the flesh tones and folds of the cloaks, especially in the warm tones that contrast with the shadows of the surroundings. The treatment of light reveals a clear late Baroque influence, with a tenebrist approach reminiscent of models from the 18th-century Spanish school. The work conveys a secluded, intimate, and devotional atmosphere, accentuated by the direction of the gaze toward the sacred center. Dimensions: 103 x 77 cm.
