Massive protobiface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of H. Erectus who lived there. These tools are regarded as transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully retouched hand axes. Characteristic is the preservation of a large part of the cortex and, with a minimum of flaking, still aiming for a pointed form. These protobifaces are not common in large assemblages. Made from chert/flint. Originating from the Western Sahara, Seguiet el Hamra. Little to no wear and in excellent condition. See photos.
