- A great witchcraft trial in the 17th century: Abbot Gaufridy and Madeleine de Demandolx (1600-1670) by J. Lorédan – Paris, Perrin, 1912. Una cronaca – testimony of the history of Madeleine de Demandolx. Forced to enter, at thirteen, the Ursulines of Marseille, at 18 she began not eating and showing strange behaviours, to the point of breaking a crucifix. The exorcist pronounced the sentence of “diabolical possession,” but despite repeated attempts at exorcism, nothing changed. Almost taking advantage of this situation, Abbot Gauffridy had carnal relations with her. Thus the trial against the two accused of witchcraft and possessed by the devil was instituted. In the original paperback, well preserved; light foxing due to the type of paper. With 9 plates and 2 photographic facsimiles. Pp. XIV, 436; cm. 20.5 x 13.5. - The inquisitorial trial of Gilles de Rais with an Essay of rehabilitation, by L. Hernandez. Paris: 1921. Pp. CII, 204, (4); cm. 23 x 14. Well preserved, partially unopened, with leaves still closed. Some plates. Chronicle, trial records, “narrative” of the civil and religious process of Gilles de Rais, baron of Retz, marshal of France (1404-1440), as well as a companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc. Involved in alchemical and occult practices, especially regarding the children he would sacrifice in homage to the Demon. He was condemned to death. It is believed that his story inspired Perrault for the fairy tale Bluebeard. - Cahiers de l'Association Internationale des Études françaises. Published with the assistance of UNESCO. July 1953. Paris: Société d'Édition "Les Belles Lettres", 1953. Pp. 269, (1); cm. 21 x 13.5. In editorial softcover, very well preserved. Contains articles on cultural and social themes of the era. Notably three interesting contributions on fear of the Devil, Devil and bestiality, Devil in religious theater. - La mystique divine distinguée des contrefaçons diaboliques et des analogies humaines. by M. J. Ribet, Paris, Librairie Poussielgue, 1895-1903. Four volumes, complete work. The first two volumes treat: Les phénomènes mystiques. The next: Les causes des phénomènes mystiques. Pp. X, 456; (2), 700; (2), 472; VI, 414; cm. 21 x 14. In editorial softcover with the cover of Volume II detached, otherwise well preserved: unopened, with leaves still closed. The canonical French mystic writer Jerome Ribet (1837–1909) examines, with care, religious faith and great attention the mysteries of mystical phenomena and the intruding “diabolic” in religion, with the stages of mystical contemplation, visions, revelations, etc.
