A six-panel byōbu with a mountainous lake landscape - Paper

A six-panel screen painted on paper in soft colors, depicting an expansive mountainous lake landscape, articulated through successive rocky promontories, small islands and pine trees. Irregular rocky formations rise from the water, while distant mountains rendered in pale washes of ink enhance the sense of depth. Particular attention is given to the treatment of vegetation, rocky surfaces and water, combining fine brushwork, graduated ink washes and restrained touches of blue, green and brown pigments. The screen is finished with a lacquered wooden frame. The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider. Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings. ---The byobu is in good overall condition, with signs of wear, stains, holes (particularly in the upper sixth panel) and restorations. Patches on the reverse. Wear to the lacquered frame. Please refer to the pictures for further details. The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy. 179
