A rare Great War D.S.C., A.F.C. group of nine awarded to Group Captain T. H. England, Royal Air Force, later Royal Naval Air Service, ‘a brilliant officer and splendid pilot’ who lent valuable service in the opening stages of the Arab Revolt in the summer of 1916. One of three R.N.A.S. pilots who bombed Jeddah from just 500 feet on 16 June – and secured the surrender of the Turkish garrison - he then flew an epic sortie to attack Homs in Ottoman Syria on 26 August, in which endeavour he again came under sustained fire Distinguished Service Cross, G.V.R., hallmarks for London ‘1916’; Air Force Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued; 1914-15 Star (Flt. Lt. T. H. England, R.N.A.S.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Major T. H. England. R.A.F.); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, with M.I.D. oak leaf, mounted for wear, housed with related miniature awards in a leather case, lacquered, very fine (9) £3,000-£4,000.
