A rare cast table bell made in London in 1851 by Charles & George Fox.

A rare cast table bell made in London in 1851 by Charles & George Fox.

The bell is beautifully modelled as a Pear, with shaped main body and handle simulated as the foliate sprig of the pear. This piece is very well modelled and is well marked on the main body and the interior clapper. The bell is in excellent condition and has a good clear sound. With reference to the makers, the Fox family are considered to be exceptional silversmiths who made very fine pieces of innovative design, before Victorian mass production would take hold. This is an extremely rare design and it has not been on the market since the 1970's, when it was sold by the prominent Bond Street luxury retailers, and antique dealers, Asprey. Its nature is so special that it was featured in one of their advertisements from the period, an image of which is attached. Height: 4 inches, 10 cm. Base Diameter: 2.25 inches, 5.63 cm. Weight: 5oz.
