A rare and highly unusual late 19th early 20th Century Irish folk art blackthorn walking stick, the shaft unusually stripped completely of its natural bark to reveal the smooth timber beneath. The finial is formed as a bird's head with a pronounced beak, carved separately by hand and skillfully attached to the shaft. The head is further enhanced with inserted eyes, adding character and individuality to the piece. A distinctive example of traditional Irish vernacular craftsmanship and folk art, displaying both originality and decorative appeal. 85cms long approx.
