A FINE GEORGE II CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE, CIRCA 1755

A FINE GEORGE II CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE, CIRCA 1755

A FINE GEORGE II CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE CIRCA 1755 72.5cm high, 78.5cm diameter Provenance: Acquired from Ronald Phillips Ltd, Bruton St London 13th May 2004 A very similar tripod table was sold Christie's London, Important English Furniture: The Property of a Gentleman, 24th November 2005, Lot 10 (£102,000 incl. BP). Condition Report: Old marks, scratches, wear and abrasions and some fading comensurate with age and use Some additional wear in areas including the 'knees' of the legs as may be expected. Some minor old repairs. Some old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some old worm damage to the blocks of the top of the stem, relatively minor and expected for age. There is an old iron bracket/ catch added to engage the catch (which is an honest old replacement) where the original metal element there was broken/ lost (and possibly some adjacent timber split/ fractured from use), which is an honest old replacement. There is an additional screw adjacent to the catch (to the underside of the top), it seems likely this is possibly where the catch may have been moved at some point, but then the catch put back to the position one would expect. The screws to the catch now appear to be replacements. Pleasing figuring to the timber of the top. Pleasing softened tone and surface. No obvious old breaks through legs or feet One modern cap secured to underside of one foot (presumably to make table level for use) Please refer to all additional images available via email for visual reference to condition, they are a vital part of the condition report.
