(A) EARLY COLT MEDIUM FRAME OPEN TOP LIGHTNING RIFLE.

(A) EARLY COLT MEDIUM FRAME OPEN TOP LIGHTNING RIFLE. Dates to 1885, second year production. Standard features include the full octagon barrel, full tube magazine, dovetailed small knife blade front sight, semi buckhorn rear sporting sight, blued finish, open top frame, walnut stock with metal rifle butt plate and two piece walnut forearm. CONDITION: Very good. All metal has drifted to a smooth patina with bold Colt legends atop the barrel. Stock is solid with sundry impressions and a wrist metal stud repair. The forearm appears to have been checkered but basically smooth showing a hairline on left panel. Mechanically sound but stubborn with a fairly well defined bore showing some abrasion.
