5¢ MILLS QT DIAL "AROUND THE WORLD" SLOT MACHINE A rare c. late 1930s Mills Novelty Co. 5¢ aviation-themed coin-operated machine with gum vendor. An exceptional pre-war 5¢ machine by Mills Novelty Co., Chicago, Illinois. Striking streamline Art Deco cabinet featuring a large circular world map playing field, with embossed chrome airplane centered below, the nose of the airplane denoting destinations such as New York, Chicago, Edmonton, Nome, Moscow, Berlin, Paris, and London. The cast perimeter around the world map incorporates various aviation and weather conditions, including Tailwind, Fog, Rain, Snow, Ice, Headwind, and Out of Gas. Upper section is fitted with 5¢ coin entry, finished in attractive blue and silver color combination. Fitted at the side with a glass-front nickel-plated ball gum vendor. This is an unusually graphic and scarce aviation-themed example, combining early coin-operated gambling, vending, and outstanding machine age design. CONDITION: Retains Mills Novelty Co.
