(5) Civil War Era Carte de Visite Photographs

Collection of five Civil War-era carte de visite (CDV) photographs, including four portraits of Union military officers and a seated portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. The military portraits include a full-length officer photograph by Mathew Brady of Washington, D.C., a standing officer with handwritten identification on the reverse as Captain O. J. Bier of the 5th West Virginia Volunteers, a uniformed officer with a handwritten military identification on the reverse, and a bust portrait inscribed on the front to a recipient and signed "J. C. Langley," with a corresponding inscription on the reverse identifying him as Lieutenant Colonel Langley of the 5th New Hampshire Volunteers. The Lincoln photograph depicts the president seated in profile, with a Brady, Washington imprint on the mount. Additional photographers represented include Coonley & Wolfersberger of Philadelphia and R. W. Addis of Washington, D.C. Estimate $300 - $600
