4pc Wedgwood Historical American Blue Transferware Plates

This set of four blue and white transfer-printed earthenware souvenir plates features various scenes from American history. Manufactured by Wedgwood at the Etruria works in England, these plates were produced for the prominent Boston-based importer and retailer Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Co. Each plate centers a historical vignette: "Birth of the American Flag" depicting Betsy Ross with George Washington; "Independence Hall, Philadelphia" showing the building exterior; "The Spirit of '76" (Yankee Doodle) featuring the iconic fifer and drummers; and "Washington Crossing the Delaware." The central scenes are framed by a wide, dense border of floral motifs, including roses and peonies. The reverse of each plate bears multiple blue printed marks, including the Wedgwood name, "Etruria England," and the circular logo for Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Co. Several plates include specific historical descriptions and copyright dates. All pieces in this collection include a provenance sticker from the Rubin Collection on the reverse.
