The Hopi, Indigenous people of the Americas, who have inhabited the lands of North America long before the first European set foot there, continuously preserve their millennial traditions, hoods and other ceremonial accessories. In the vast desert stretches of the state of Arizona bordered by high plateaus, called mesas, the Hopi peoples carry on their ritual ceremonies to the rhythm of the seasons. Wearing masks and ceremonial outfits, the dancers personify the spirits whose aid is needed to regulate rains and ensure a good harvest of beans and corn. Spirits of minerals, game, domestic animals, plants, trees, wind, the dead… the spirituality of all materiality, called Katsiman (or Kachina), is then invoked. The Hopis ask these messengers to use their benevolent power to help humans live in harmony. #ttapr
