Magnificent cuvée, the first Chardonnay from the domaine to watch in the Jura: Domaine du Calice! Unfindable, already very great, one problem only: rare... Young creation from Domaine du Calice, Icare marks the entry of Chardonnay into Loïc Le Blaye's range, the adopted winemaker based in Arbois since 2021. Born in Toulouse, trained with Stéphane Tissot before going solo, Loïc Le Blaye is gradually carving out his place among the emerging talents of natural Jura, with a estate of less than three hectares cut for excellence. The cuvée takes its name from the Greek mythological figure who, carried by his waxen wings, ventured too close to the sun—a metaphor for the ambition behind this first vintage from the lieu-dit Les Bodines in Arbois. Chardonnay, the staple grape of the Jura, is expressed here with a natural approach: indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfites, and hand-bottling by the winemaker himself in Arbois. The wine shows a pale gold color with bright reflections. The nose reveals a fine calcareous minerality, accompanied by notes of fresh apple, pear, and zested citrus. The palate is precise and chiselled, carried by a lively acidity and a persistent saline finish. Delivery can be postponed in case of high heat upon request. Delivery in Europe, reinforced/shielded package. Bottle intact, kept under ideal conditions.
